Difficulties in acknowledging, processing and being with others’ anger abound in our culture generally and can be experienced by therapists. I believe that these difficulties originate from a range of misunderstandings about its nature.

This CPD training seeks to foster a sense of community, which dissolves cultural and familial shame about these issues; theoretical models are presented which invite personal exploration and dialogue, supporting practitioners to better understand their own anger and rage processes which in turn support their work with clients.

Some crucial principles that underpin my work are that anger and rage

• are different psychological and emotional processes and have different aetiologies

  • have different relational needs and require different interventions

  • and, most importantly,
  • require a relational approach

This training offers

  • information about anger and rage
  • theoretical models that I have developed to facilitate the understanding and processing of anger and rage
  • clarification of how cognitive and relational therapy models support or hinder work with clients
  • small and large group discussions which enable participants to explore their personal and professional experience of, and relationship to, anger and rage
    and
  • opportunities to integrate learning through skills practice
  • a supervision slot for the exploration of workplace and practice issues

Presenter Profile

Sue Parker Hall

(MSc, BSc, Adv Dip Couns, Cert Ed, advanced clinical training in TA)

I am a BACP accredited therapist, an HE lecturer on University of Plymouth counselling programmes at Cornwall College and am a psychotherapist in private practice. I facilitate personal and professional development in a variety of settings (statutory and voluntary).

I receive referrals from a range of statutory and voluntary agencies and have presented my work at national conferences across the UK ( England, Scotland and Wales) and in Ireland. I am hoping to present my work in Malta in October of this year. A book proposal Anger, Rage & Relationship’ has progressed as far as the editorial board in the publishing process.

My ideas and practice develop organically, out of relationships and in response to feedback.
