What is counselling?

Counselling can be seen as short term, looking at specific issues or goals and often related to the present.

How do counselling and psychotherapy help?

Counselling and psychotherapy involve a safe, supportive and respectful therapeutic relationship which can help you

feel listened to

come to terms with the past

increase your self-awareness

understand your part in relationships

identify & change unhelpful behaviour patterns

set goals and achieve them

make new choices and decisions

Working contract

Therapeutic process: I carry out an initial assessment interview to see if we both feel we can work together. We then agree on a specific number of sessions. At the end of this we jointly assess our progress and decide whether further sessions will be helpful. If we cannot work together wherever possible I will assist you by providing alternative contacts.

Sessions: are weekly at a regular time; they last for fifty minutes (or 1¼ hours for couples). If you are late arriving for a session we will terminate at the usual time to allow me to fulfil my other appointments for the day.

Contact:
I have a telephone answering machine. If I need to contact you, I just leave my name and number. If this is not acceptable please let me know.

Confidentiality:
I treat all information disclosed to me by you as confidential. However, if I believe that you are in danger of harming yourself or others, or that a child is at risk, I reserve the right to inform outside agencies but would not do, wherever possible, without discussing this with you first. If you disclose information about certain criminal or terrorist offences I have a professional obligation to tell outside agencies without informing you first.

Payment is made at the end of the session.

Psychotherapy and counselling for
individuals is on a weekly basis and I charge £45 per 50 minute session;

a
couples session on a weekly basis (1 hour)  is £60.00.

Face-to-face supervision is £75.00 for a 1 hour and 15 minute session on a monthly basis

Empathic Anger Management Skype supervision is £55 by paypal or £50.00 by BACS for a 50 minute session and....a special offer until the end of May....pay for two sessions and a third session is free.

Some concessions for therapy clients and student supervisees are available.

If you are
late arriving for a session we will end at the usual time to allow me to fulfil my other appointments for the day.

Cancelled appointments with less than one weeks notice are charged for.  If you do need to cancel I will endeavour to offer you an alternative slot that week.

If these fees are unaffordable please consider the low cost counselling clinics which are supervised and managed by Sue Parker Hall (West of Cornwall) and Dr Cathy McQuaid (North Cornwall); sessions are weekly, 50 minutes and cost £20.00
